To encapsulate the computationally expensive parts of ALE, I've forked a
project libale, available here:

A (possibly stale) copy of the tree is also available here:

There's no code transferred yet, but there is a TODO list, so please catch
errors early.

There are probably quite a few independent areas of code that can be worked on
(e.g., GPU, network, and algorithms), so it should be possible for work to
occur in parallel.

The license chosen for the fork is AGPL, in anticipation of cluster, grid, and
client/server architectures.  I'm okay with my ALE code being used under AGPL,
but check the log for other contributors (I think HJ Hornbeck's gaussian
filters are the only code I didn't write, but check this prior to migrating any
code).
